What was up with Jean Grey (first?) coming back to life in Avengers and FF? I was reading Sterns run and suddenly an X-men plot out of nowhere. I know it had something to do with setting up x-factor but it's weird not seeing it in an x-book.

It was all a part of our long term strategy to marginalize and destroy the X-Men.

(Really it was because this was a plot development that the X-Office was against, but the EIC and other creators wanted.)

Actually, while it’s true that the X-office was against the story, the reason it happened in AVENGERS, FF and X-FACTOR is because Bob Layton got the idea for the resurrection story from John Byrne, who got it from Roger Stern. Who got it from me, way back when I was just starting out.

So once the EIC approved the story, they did it as a crossover in Roger’s, John’s and Bob’s books.
